It can be difficult to decide whether studying abroad is worth your time and money. This is especially true when you consider the limited resources college students have. This is one opportunity you shouldn't miss, I can tell you after returning from the Winter Europe MBA seminar and faculty led study tour. IBS has had many positive impacts on me, both before and during the seminar. I am writing this blog to share my experiences. I will never forget the memories and connections I made.
Before the Program:
This program could be used to earn elective credits at your university. This allowed me to concentrate my energy on core classes during the semester that followed my seminar.
Nothing beats anticipation before a trip. The pre-seminar experience includes packing, planning independent travel, budgeting, and possibly even planning before the seminar.
I recommend that you allocate a lot of your budget to meals. It is likely that you will be dining out at least once a day. In Europe, this can cost between $20-30 per person. While this amount is less in Asia, it will still be important to consider. It is a good idea to save money for souvenirs and excursions.
To offset these costs, you can apply for scholarships through IBS and your university. IBS offers many scholarships, alumni and internship positions, as well as photo contests for program participants. These opportunities are available to everyone, depending on their strengths and interests.
During the Program:
It was a great opportunity to travel to England and France during Brexit, a massive cultural, political and social shift. In both countries, We heard from professionals in various workshops & seminars management in both companies who are directly involved in the process of predicting and adapting their firms' strategies to prepare for the implementation of Brexit.
IBS is open to students from all universities in the country, as IBS is a nationwide program. Throughout the seminar, we had many opportunities to meet and network with our colleagues.
We also worked in small groups to create short presentations prior to each visit. This allowed us to improve our presentation and leadership skills, as well as teamwork.
It is difficult to stick to a budget, but it can be nearly impossible during seminars. Don't worry if a meal is more costly than you expected. Instead of going to expensive restaurants, try a fast-casual restaurant instead.
Using public transport such as the Underground in London and Paris Metro is more affordable than using taxis or ride-sharing apps like Uber.
After the Program:
A IBS Seminar can be a great addition to your LinkedIn profile and resume. International experience will set you apart from other applicants. It will also show potential employers that your ambition is high and you have a global outlook.
The once-in-a lifetime trips to iconic landmarks like the Palace of Versailles in France and the West End of London will stay with you forever. These unforgettable experiences with seminar friends will stay with you long after your return to university.
IBS offers alumni the opportunity to be ambassadors for IBS programs. This is a great opportunity to gain business and marketing experience, as well as helping other students find the right program.
For those of you who are on the fence:
This opportunity should be compared to other opportunities at your university. IBS is the most cost-effective option.
Company visits are not for job interviews or recruitment opportunities. However, they can give you an idea about the types of jobs available abroad to help you make career decisions.
IBS will give you the confidence to travel alone in the future. You will get the travel bug once you've been abroad.
